Square Foot Calculator By GPS
Calculate square footage using GPS coordinates. Enter latitude and longitude points to compute the area of any land parcel in square feet.
GPS Coordinate Calculator
Enter GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude) for each corner of your land parcel. Points should be in order around the perimeter.
How to Calculate Square Footage By GPS
GPS coordinates pinpoint exact locations on Earth using latitude and longitude. By walking the perimeter of a property and recording GPS coordinates at each corner, you can calculate the enclosed area precisely.
How to Collect GPS Coordinates
- Use a GPS app on your phone (Google Maps, Apple Maps, or a dedicated GPS app).
- Walk to each corner of the property boundary.
- Record the latitude and longitude at each corner point.
- Enter coordinates in order — follow the perimeter clockwise or counter-clockwise.
How the Calculation Works
The calculator converts geographic coordinates (degrees) to flat distances (meters) using the Haversine approximation, then applies the Shoelace formula to compute the polygon area. The result is converted from square meters to square feet.
Accuracy
Standard smartphone GPS is accurate to 3–5 meters. For survey-grade accuracy (sub-centimeter), professional RTK GPS equipment is required. For property estimates and planning, smartphone GPS is usually sufficient.
Common Land Area References

| 1 hectare | 107,639 sq ft |
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is GPS-based area calculation? +
Standard smartphone GPS is accurate to 3-5 meters, suitable for estimates. Survey-grade RTK GPS provides sub-centimeter accuracy.
How do I collect GPS coordinates for my property? +
Walk to each corner of your property with your phone and record the latitude/longitude from a GPS app. Enter points in order around the perimeter.
What GPS apps can I use to get coordinates? +
Google Maps, Apple Maps, GPS Coordinates (iOS/Android), and What3Words all provide GPS coordinates for any location.
How is the area calculated from GPS points? +
The calculator converts lat/lng to metric distances using the Haversine formula, then applies the Shoelace algorithm to compute the polygon area.
